With Democrats adjusting after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, News 9 and News On 6 political analyst Scott Mitchell shared more on what to expect ahead of the November election.

Despite the sudden departure of the nation's commander-in-chief from the campaign trail, Mitchell said the immediate effect may be minimal.

"This [is not] a big deal," Mitchell said. "They called elections in the United Kingdom on (May 31). They had the election July 4... It's not that unusual. Lyndon Baines Johnson got out in (March 1968), and they had to scramble."

As for what Democrats must do regarding Vice President Kamala Harris, the Biden-appointed successor, Mitchell said the part has rallied behind Harris.

"With Vice President Harris at the top, you get to keep the money," Mitchell said. "You keep the mechanism, but the Democrat chiefs in all 50 states have come around for her, it's not that big [of] a deal."

In regards to Biden and the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump, Mitchell said both are adjusting to the new change.

"Right now, Joe Biden and Donald Trump are angry," Mitchell said. "Biden's angry because he was forced out, he was cancelled by the donors, that's exactly what happened. Donald Trump, all that money spent saying 'Biden, Biden, Biden,' now that's gone."

Despite other former President's and candidates, such as Bill and Hillary Clinton, coming out in support of Harris, Mitchell said it was "curious" for former President Barack Obama to withhold support.

Although, Mitchell also said Obama will focus on timing.

"He [Obama] knows timing pretty well," Mitchell said. "So he will be the only big name not yet endorsing her, and there'll be an event where that he does, and it will be covered and it'll be 24-hour news cycle."

Ahead of the election, Mitchell said another thing both sides' candidates must focus on will be controlling the spread of online misinformation.

"The conspiracy theory industry is gonna kick off big time," Mitchell said. "You're gonna see the conspiracies. The big one that's going to come around is that Vice President Harris covered up Biden's health. You're going to see QAnon is going to be back."
