"Was it worth it? Was it worth an innocent life? Because my daughter didn’t deserve this," said Misty Goldman.
A heartbroken mother spoke out in the wake of her daughter's death in a multi-vehicle crash.
Investigators say two metro men are now in jail. They are accused of racing down Interstate 35 Friday night in Moore.
According to initial reports, a total of five vehicles were involved, and four of them were obliterated.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said it would take some time to determine exactly what happened.
Friday night Marissa Byrd, 26, was involved in a violent collision. “We had to shut the highway down and there was a significant amount of damage to multiple vehicles,” said Trooper Preston Cox, Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Seconds later a phone app alerted Marissa's family. Her mother, Misty Goldman frantically tried reaching her.
“I called Marissa’s phone, but an officer answered, and I said is my daughter, ok? And he said no, she’s just been in a wreck, you need to get to the hospital immediately,” said Misty Goldman, Marissa’s mother.
But it was too late.
“As emergency personnel were able to get to her, because they had to cut her out with the jaws of life, that she was already in cardiac arrest,” said Goldman.
Misty learned her daughter had called 911.
“You don’t ever want to think your child is hurting or suffering, or scared, she might be a grown woman, but she was my baby,” said Goldman.
She said there was nothing left of her daughter's car. “It looked like a scrap piece of metal. I instantly burst into tears. It was so horrible,” said Goldman.
According to OHP, witnesses told troopers Isaiah Lancaster and Devon Davis were racing.
A witness told Marissa's mother after seeing the speeding cars she knew someone would die.
“She said I immediately got towards the right lane and screamed at my son, 'Oh my God they’re going to kill somebody,'” said Goldman.
“I can tell you from the damage that I’ve personally seen, I can almost tell you that the minimum was triple digits,” said Cox.
Misty says her daughter's life was unfairly cut short. “She’ll never get to do those things, she’s never been married, never had children,” said Goldman.
