Best Step, a program that focuses on career readiness for youth with disabilities, joined News 9 on the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch.

Counselor Victoria Middleton and student Brianna Johnson spoke about the program and all it has to offer.

“I did the week-long camp program, they teach you the job skills and how to advocate for yourself in the workforce,” Johnson said. “What accommodations you can ask for, which was very helpful because as someone with a disability, it's not always a very well environment within the workforce community.”

Johnson was even hired by the company she worked with after the program.

Middleton says each camp has around 20 kids participating, with 28 camps statewide.

“It's really cool to see them, all the connections that get made,” Middleton said. “It's not just about getting a paycheck and getting out into the community. It's connecting.”
