The sister of a man murdered in 1999 is desperate for answers about who killed him and why. She hopes previously collected DNA evidence can be looked at again, using newer technology.
Gary Wixon was murdered nearly 24 years ago. Gary was 46 years old when police say he was strangled to death.
His sister, Deva Dobbs, said she's lost so many people over the years who never got any answers. She wants this to be solved while she's still alive.
"I strongly believe it will be solved," said Deva Dobbs, Gary's sister.
"There needs to be some peace in the family. And we'll know that he'll be at peace then. Because until then I don't think he is. He's dead, he's gone, but his soul is still in turmoil," said Deva.
Officers found Gary's body lying on a gravel road near train tracks in Northeast Tulsa in August of 1999.
"What a horrible way to go, to be dumped like a dead kitten. Nobody wants to go like that, and you don't want your loved ones to find you that way. That's cruel," said Deva.
Deva has her theories about her big brother's death.
"Some kind of a deal on the side gone bad. Whether it was drugs or it was a car," said Deva.
She said Gary had agreed to give their late father's Mustang to a gang member and was supposed to meet the guy at Skiatook Lake, but Gary never showed.
She said Gary's Bronco was found in Glenpool, outside the house of a man and woman who Deva says were both spotted near where Gary's body was found.
Deva hopes new technology can do something with the DNA evidence that's been collected in the case.
"I understand the time involved, money involved. Lot of expenses. Lot of people, but that's what it's about. Catching cold cases that someone else couldn't catch when there's more stuff around to catch them with now," said Deva.
She admits Gary had a drug problem and said he wasn't perfect, but says he also did good.
"He was a good paramedic. He saved a lot of people's lives," said Deva. "We can't all be heroes, but he certainly tried most of his life."
