The Oklahoma Humane Society is the largest animal-based nonprofit in the state, and getting animals to their forever loving home is top priority.
“We’re not a shelter, we don’t take in any animals or strays like that, but we do take in owner surrenders and work with other shelters around Oklahoma,” said Destanee Ratley with the Oklahoma Humane Society.
They were very excited about a recent call from TTCU Federal Credit Union.
“TTCU came to us wanting to help out animals while also wanting to get them into their forever homes. They gave us a generous donation,” said Ratley.
The credit union wanted to surprise potential pet adopters by paying their adoption fees.
“We just wanted to make it nice and easy for people to come in and find their dream pet and go home without the financial burden,” said Gina Stanley with TTCU.
Making it really tough to say no and to make a decision on the perfect pet, even tough for those that didn’t come to adopt.
“Oh, I’m about to take three or four home with me, so I’m going to have to put the kibosh on that,” said Stanley.
For Taylor Rollins, it was perfect timing.
“I’ve been wanting a cat for a long time, and I finally had the opportunity to get one,” said Rollins.
The surprise was perfect for Rollins, who has been looking all around for the perfect cat.
“Just how sweet she was and how cuddly she was,” said Rollins.
For those not looking for a new best friend there are other ways to support.
They can go to www.okhumane.org if they are interested in fostering, volunteering, or adopting.
But with so many great pets available and TTCU paying the fees, the toughest thing was fighting the urge to take home more than one pet.
“Yeah, I’m so happy and excited, it’s been a good day,” said Rollins.
The OK Humane Society is located at 7500 N Western and is open Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
