A Midtown staple is closing its doors after more than 15 years of serving authentic Brazilian cuisine to Oklahomans.

The owner said opening Cafe Do Brasil was a dream come true.

When customers walk into the restaurant, owner Ana Davis said she wants it to feel like they're stepping into her world.

Home for her is Brazil.

“The yellow and the green, hey Brazilian flag. I just wanted to make sure that people would remember Brazil or people would get to know all this art there on the walls was made in Brazil especially for this restaurant,” Davis said.

She moved to Oklahoma in the 1980s to go to school.

“In 1983, it was a big culture shock,” Davis said.

So, she wanted to bring her culture here. In 1994, she opened up More than Muffins at the old Victoria Building, but she quickly outgrew it.

“The place was getting a little too small. So, I would go home and tell my husband we have to find a place, we have to find a bigger place because the people are getting upset, they can’t be served,” Davis said.

She eventually found a former church building in Midtown.

“I told my husband this is it,” Davis said.

She opened up Cafe Do Brazil, and it's been her new home away from home.

She’s been cooking for her customers which have become family. That's why it's so hard for her to say goodbye.

“To be honest with you my heart is in pieces. But just like everything else you have to have a beginning and an ending,” Davis said.

Davis said at 65 she has a new dream, a dream to put herself first.

She's closing up shop on Saturday and saying thank you to everyone for letting her bring a little taste of Brazil to Oklahoma.

“OKC and Oklahoma has embraced me like a daughter here you know and it’s just amazing,” Davis said.
