A Norman nonprofit is expanding its headquarters to be able to provide more for the needy in their community.
The building currently serving as the headquarters for the charity is around 2,500 square feet , which allows the organization to feed around 700 families a month. Director of Mission Norman, Mike Butler, said the planned 7,000 square feet facility will allow the food pantry to feed over 1,000 families.
Once the expansion is complete, Butler said, they’ll be able to shop the food pantry as if it was a grocery store.
“The project is $1.2 million and comes from amazing donors all over, we are paying as we go," Butler said.
A Norman resident who has been shopping at Mission Norman said one box will feed his family for two weeks.
“We are grateful, I have two sons and they eat a lot," Norman resident Terrell Carter said. "Mission Norman has helped me be able to provide groceries. Do not be afraid to ask for help."
Mission Norman said it will also provide transitional housing for the homeless, for up to one year.
The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2023.
