Prices for orange juice and other citrus products are increasing due to hurricanes and plant diseases, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The department said devastation caused by Hurricane Ian in 2022, as well as citrus greening disease, have negatively affected growers in Florida.
Citrus greening disease, caused by the Liberibacter genus of bacteria, causes normally healthy citrus fruits to appear green.
Growers said the disease is like a cancer for produce.
Currently, prices for orange juice are up 9% in the past year according the NielsonIQ.
