A suspected intoxicated driver found himself inside a northeast Oklahoma City garage, but it was not his own. Tuesday around 3 a.m. Gerald Harper, 32, hit a fence and a parked RV before slamming his truck into a home near northeast 50th and Kelley Avenue, according to police. Harper was transported to a local hospital for injuries and was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on one complaint of driving under the influence.

Harper’s truck went off the road for unknown reasons, according to police. The truck left a trail of debris before hitting the home.

“The vehicle is rolling and completely out of control when it strikes the residence,” Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department, said.

The homeowner was shaken out of her sleep when the truck crashed into the garage. The damage was so severe fire crews had to use a beam to keep the ceiling from collapsing. Responding officers noted that Harper was out of his truck and walking around.

“When officers arrived, they interviewed the driver,” said Knight. “He appeared to be impaired. He was under the influence and appeared to be impaired.”

The homeowner was not injured in the crash.
