A dozen rare guns were taken from a storage facility in Mustang.
The guns are extra sentimental because they're used to give veterans their final goodbyes.
The veteran community in Mustang is shaken following a burglary.
Don Kuntze is the adjutant for the American Legion Post 353. He said he got a call this week that someone broke into his storage unit on South Czech Hall leaving it in shambles.
“We probably lost 25,000 bucks worth of stuff,” Kuntze said.
Kuntze said suspects took off with sentimental items, like 12 rifles given to the American Legion Post by the Department of Defense.
“These are near and dear to us and we use these for military funerals and community parades and events. But the big deal is the final salute to our much-deserved veterans,” Kuntze said.
He said the rare rifles are more than 70 years old. Kuntze said they honor around 50 to 75 veterans a year. He's been part of almost every final salute.
Kuntze said he's always honored to be part of a veteran's last military honor. He said they might've been hit hard, but he has hope.
“The serial numbers have all been published in the newspaper, the police station and all the pawn shops have serial numbers. So I’m hoping that someday some of these will start popping up and we can get them and recover them,” Kuntze said.
Mustang police said this is just one of several thefts they're investigating at the storage facility. They said right now they're following several leads.
They also posted photos of four trucks they believe to be involved.
