The Tulsa City Council toured South Tulsa Wednesday, as part of a series of district tours for councilors to see all parts of the city.

The Council District 8 tour, led by Councilor Phil Lakin, focused largely on transportation needs.

“The value of bringing people out on a District 8 tour is that they see what our roads look like, and what our neighborhoods look like, and what our issues are,” said Lakin.

The Council spent almost an hour at the $29 million project to widen South Yale Avenue from two to six lanes.

The project will continue through next summer.

“We've been waiting 25 years to do this project, needed to do it,” said Lakin.

Councilor Crista Patrick, who represents northeast Tulsa, said while Lakin’s district has traffic congestion, her constituents deal with more economic problems.

”The needs out here are so much different than the needs of my constituents, so it's really good to get to see it first-hand," she said.
