Brody Rutledge Is Difference Maker On Offense For Sand Springs

Sand Springs hosts Muskogee to begin district play. The Sandites only have one loss on the year against Bixby and the Roughers are a perfect 3-0.

It takes luck, talent, and toughness to win a football game. For Sand Springs, they have all of that with wide receiver Brody Rutledge.

“He is a Sand Springs guy, so he is tough but he is also very athletic. He has great hands. He is tall. Just a great target,” said Sand Springs Head Coach, Bobby Klinck.

Sometimes in football the position will find you. For Rutledge, he started his career quarterback. But after a couple of years and visiting with head coach Bobby Klinck, he found his true calling as wide receiver.

“When I first started, I was dropping balls in summer passing leagues and he was on me. I got it more than most that summer. I think it truly helped me to become the player that I’m,” said Sandites Wide Receiver, Brody Rutledge.

So even with all the dropped balls in the beginning, Brody is becoming the player that Klinck hoped he would become.

"He is one of the guys that I've coached really hard. Got on him a bunch, probably at some point didn't like me very much. He always comes back and has one of the top receiving games in Sand Springs, that’s why we get onto you,” said Klinck.

And the hope is to bring home the win Friday against Muskogee and see Rutledge play at next level.

“He is starting to feel himself out. His recruiting should skyrocket from here,” said Klinck.

Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. in Sand Springs on Friday night, Sept. 23.
