Mounds Elementary School students get a big greeting every Friday morning during football season thanks to a longtime tradition from the football team and cheerleaders.

Every Friday morning in the fall in Mounds starts with a hello and a high five from the football players and cheerleaders as they walk elementary students inside the school.

The tradition has created a special bond between Junior Jacob Jones and 2nd grader Boss Love.

"We just fell in love with each other and now he's my little best friend," junior Jacob Jones said.

Jacob greets Boss every Friday morning, Boss has now switched his jersey number to match Jacobs and cheers him on every Friday night.

"Well he's always nice, and he's always so excited, and he's always so fast," Boss said.

Athletic Director Jonathan Clay says this has been a tradition in Mounds for the past 13 years, creating memories for the elementary students as well as the football player and cheerleaders.

"Friday football in the fall is a big deal, and for a small town like ours this is a pretty big tradition that we have," he said.

Clay says the team has had a few different coaches throughout the years, but this is something they've all made a priority.

It helps with school spirit and brings the community together.

"I think part of it is as they walk in they look up to these players and these cheerleaders and want to be like them someday, so I think they enjoy it," he said.

As for Boss and Jacob, this tradition has created a lifelong friendship.

"I think it gives him someone to look up to, and someone he can be around, and somebody he can talk to," Jones said.

The Mounds Eagles will play Kellyville tonight for their homecoming game.
