The City of Tulsa is getting ready to celebrate 9-1-8 Day, based off Tulsa's area code.

"I think everybody recognizes the number as our area code, 918, so September 18 is our day to celebrate all the things we love about Tulsa," Mayor G.T. Bynum said.

Bynum said this weekend will be full of special events celebrating the city, but this year is specifically to highlight the hard work of Tulsa's first responders.

"We are, in particular, to honor our first responders here in Tulsa, who have done so much in the last few years in particular, and they do every day," Bynum said.

The Discovery Lab is one of the Tulsa-based businesses getting involved, with offering half-price tickets of $5 to police officers, fire fighters and people with EMSA.

"At Discovery Lab, we hope for caregivers, parents to engage, and play right alongside their children," said Executive Director Dr. Ray Vandiver.

He said they couldn't miss out on honoring people who do so much for Tulsa, and it's a great way to say thank you.

"I think it's important to let first responders know how grateful we are as a community for their service and commitment and our small way to say thank you for all they do for our community," he said.

He said first responders will need to show their employee I.D. badge to get a $5 ticket.
