Electricity Prices In Oklahoma Climbing At The Fastest Rate In The Nation

Electricity prices in Oklahoma are climbing at the fastest rate in the nation, according to a new report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Electricity prices in Oklahoma are climbing at the fastest rate in the nation, according to a new report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The report says Oklahomans saw electricity prices surge from 7.3 cents per kilowatt hour to 10.87 cents per kilowatt hour across residential, commercial, industrial and transportation sectors between June 2021 and June 2022, a 49% increase. Residential customers alone saw an average increase of about 31% in the same time frame.

Oklahoma had the most affordable electricity prices in the nation in June of 2021 and now ranks 18th for the most affordable electricity in the nation.

No other state in the nation saw a percentage increase as large as Oklahoma and according to the report, the average electricity cost increase across all sectors was about 14% across the U.S.
