OSBI: Carjacking Suspect Killed By Ponca City Police During Pursuit

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said an officer shot and killed a carjacking suspect during a chase Monday night.

Authorities said a clerk called 911 after they reported a man walked into a Ponca City liquor store, stole some alcohol and left the store on foot just after 7 p.m.

Police said they pursued the man who they said was also armed with a gun. According to police, the man encountered a woman driving a vehicle, forced her out of the car and then drove back to the strip mall where the liquor store is located.

The suspect, per authorities, drove the car through a grassy field behind the store before abandoning it.

While officers continued their pursuit of the man on foot, they said the man turned towards them with what appeared to be a gun.

Officers fired at the suspect, who died at the scene. The suspect's identity is not yet known.

Authorities said they recovered a weapon at the scene.
