A now best-selling author returns home to Oklahoma Thursday to share his memoir.

He is also giving Oklahomans that are a part of the LGBTQ+ community a chance to voice their opinion on issues impacting them.

“It feels like world’s colliding,” said John Paul Brammer.

Brammer grew up in Lawton, not really having a mentor growing up queer, but now is a best-selling author and the one helping give advice.

His book shares his experience. On Thursday night, he will share the words and feelings he put down on paper with those attending the statewide listening Pride and Policy session.

“I think about it like places where I grew up in, we need those things the most. We need people to say hey, I am from here, and I am doing fine. You will do fine,” said Brammer.

Brammer said he is pleased with how far southwest Oklahoma and the next generation has come to become more inclusive.

“When I came back to Lawton High, I met with their GSA Club,” said Brammer.

“It is so wild to me because when I went to high school, we didn’t have that, and I was like, 'Oh gosh, these kids are so brave.'”

Thursday at 6:30 p.m., you can listen to this author but also be a part of this Pride and Policy event.

Organizers say this is the chance for leaders to hear from you.

“If you do not go to where they are and listen to what is on their hearts and minds, you can’t really get a sense of how to serve them and shape policy,” said Katie Applegate, the Together Oklahoma Southwest Regional Organizer.
