The Grady County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify a man who was recorded beating a dog to death in October.

“It was very violent,” said Undersheriff Gary Boggess. “I've been doing this job for 30-some-odd years now and I've never seen something like this.”

The witness, who did not want to comment on this story, took two videos of the incident while driving past the Tuttle Animal Shelter on County Road 1190, near Highway 37, on Oct. 29.

The first show the former Tuttle Animal Control Officer and an unknown man. The ACO is seen hitting a white dog with a baton as it bites a brown dog. The second video shows the unknown man hitting the white dog as it lays on the ground until it stops moving.

The witness told News 9 that after ending the second video, they saw the ACO put the white dog in a bag and dump it in a dumpster.

The video was reported to law enforcement in March, about five months after the incident. Tuttle police Major Michael Scott said the ACO was placed on leave and later resigned.

Boggess said the ACO told deputies he could not identify the second man in the video. No criminal charge has been filed related to the dog beating.

Ruth Steinberger of the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals said the organization is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest.

“This animal did not need to go through this,” Steinberger said. “We feel it's very important that cases not be tried on Facebook, and that the information get to the agencies that are responsible for moving forward on these cases.”

Tips can be submitted to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office by leaving a message on the agency’s tip line: 405-224-0984.
