Oklahoma Native Toby Keith Takes Cancer Diagnosis Public

Country music star Toby Keith announced this weekend that he has been battling stomach cancer for months.

Keith shared on Twitter that over the past six months he has undergone chemotherapy, radiation and had surgery.

Keith said that he needs time to recover but will be back to perform soon.

The 60-year-old Keith was born in Clinton, but he spent a lot of his childhood in Moore. He still lives in the area.

Keith played football at Moore High School. If you drive along Interstate 35, you will see his name on one of the city’s water towers.

Last week, he announced that the 18th annual Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic raised more than $1 million for OK Kids Korral, the cost-free home for families of children being treated at The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center.

His cancer diagnoses will mean that some of his scheduled shows, including one at the Ohio State Fair, are canceled.
