An Oklahoma Natural Gas employee helped put out a fire after a bad wreck on Highway 75, while a man was trapped in the vehicle. A fiery crash on Highway 75 near 76th Street North left three people ejected from their car earlier this month after driving off the road. Before any first responders or news cameras were there, Shane Richardson pulled over to help.

"God had me in the right place at the right time,” Richardson said. He said a man was sticking out of the sunroof and the car was starting to catch fire.

At about the same time, another man showed up to help and Richardson went back to his work truck to get his fire extinguisher.

Richardson has been a Collinsville Rural volunteer firefighter for almost 17 years. In his 27-year career with ONG, he said he never used his extinguisher, except during training. "Not one time,” he said.

While Richardson worked to calm the flames, the other Good Samaritan pulled the unconscious man from the car. Richardson has no idea who he was.

"I believe he said maybe he was from Blackwell? But I don't remember for sure. I wish I could because he's the one that pulled him out of the car - not me,” Richardson said.

Together, he said they carried him away from the car, and saved the man's life. "He would have burned up if we didn't take him out,” Richardson said.

A woman and another man were also thrown from the car during the wreck. OHP said all three survived.

Richardson also credits ONG’s fire training for keeping his skills sharp. His last round of training was within the past year.
