The program "Get Your Refund Tulsa" says some Tulsans may be able to get extra money this year when they file their taxes if they claim the "Earned Income Tax Credit."

"Get Your Refund Tulsa" is a joint initiative of Goodwill and Tulsa Responds.

To raise awareness, Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum declared Friday as Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day.

Tulsans who earn less than $58,000 a year and are between the age of 25 and 64 may qualify for this credit.

The credit amount per family varies depending on your household income, family size and filing status.

Experts say this tax credit could amount to thousands of extra dollars for local families.

Tulsa Responds says the money can be a big boost for working families who have been impacted by the pandemic.

The group says about 20% of Tulsa households miss out on this benefit every year because they simply don't file their taxes

If you need help filing this year, Get Your Refund Tulsa is offering free tax services for families who qualify.
