Norman Police Still Not Releasing Information About Deadly Downtown Shooting

Norman police still have not released new information on a deadly shooting and officer involved shooting that happened Thursday. City officials told News 9 on Friday; the District Attorney needed to review body camera footage before police release new information. 

Norman PD has said officers first got called Thursday night, near Porter Avenue and Main Street in the Walker Arts District after loud pops rang out. 

"When I heard a pop at first, I was like I thought it was a gunshot and then I heard two more pops," said Brian Updegraff, who works at Hall of Tattoos. 

The shooting happened behind the shop. When police got to the scene, they shouted commands at the suspect. Investigators said the suspect didn't comply and began to open fire. 

"You could tell the difference, you could like tell the small, powered gun and you could hear the larger caliber going off when they were trying to defend themselves," said Updegraff. 

Officers shot back and hit the suspect. He was taken to a hospital, no word on his condition since the incident. 

Once the suspect was down, police found two more people with gunshots. Only one of them was still alive. 

At the time of the shooting, police did not say for certain if the suspect is also responsible for the other victims; but police did say they are not looking for any more people related to the killing.  

There are still many questions without answers. Investigators have not said who the suspect or victims are, what led up to the deadly shooting, or if the suspect and victims knew each other. 

Since the shooting, the officers have been on routine paid administrative leave.
