Metro school districts desperate for substitute teachers are putting extra money on the table to recruit more help.

OKCPS said they're raising the COVID stipend for guest teachers from $40 to $70, and that's on top of the standard daily pay.

Certified teachers get $80, guest teachers with a Bachelors degree get $65 and those with a high school diploma get $55 per day plus the COVID stipend.

Any substitutes that teaches for more than five consecutive days qualifies for a $100 bonus.

At Edmond Public Schools, they are partnering with Kirkpatrick Bank.

Starting Friday, anyone who substitutes in the district will have their name put in a $500 prize pool.

Additionally, any substitute that that serves for 15 consecutive days gets an extra $125.

Substitutes can also get an extra $20 if they work on Fridays.

“What we have found is we have a lot of substitutes, but they may just substitute a day here or a day there.

We are thankful for that, but we want to get them to substitute more often, if possible,” said Angela Grunewald, the Edmond Public Schools Superintendent.
