Auburn defensive coordinator Derek Mason has been linked to the open job at Oklahoma State, according to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports, who called Mason a 'strong candidate for the Oklahoma State defensive coordinator vacancy'.
Coming off his first season with the Tigers, we have been told that the former Vanderbilt head coach has been approached by several teams during the offseason with the Cowboys apparently the latest. Allowing 21.77 points per game, Auburn allowed just 126.2 yards rushing per contest and played some of their best football late in the season under Mason.
Oklahoma State is searching for a new coordinator following the loss of Jim Knowles to Ohio State. For a school known mostly for offense, the Cowboys finished last season ninth in scoring defense, giving up just 18.1 points per game.
Auburn is already searching for a defensive line coach following the loss of Nick Eason. He returned to his alma mater of Clemson following the 2021 season.
