Events Across Green Country Honor Life, Legacy Of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Several events are happening across Green Country on Monday to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy.

Several events are happening across Green Country on Monday to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy. Spectators and participants are welcome at all of them, see below for an event near you.

Tulsa: 

43rd Annual Tulsa MLK Parade starting at 11 a.m. It will begin at the corner of Noth Detroit Avenue and John Hope Franklin Boulevard, go by OSU Tulsa, through Greenwood, down Archer and finish at the intersection of Archer and Elgin. CLICK HERE to watch live.

Right after the parade ends, there will be a ribbon-cutting for the new DW’s Speakeasy and Bar in Greenwood. Event officials say the parade is typically over by 12:30 p.m. and they expect this year to be the same.

Wagoner: 

The annual MLK Day parade in Wagoner begins at 10 a.m. The participants will line up at United Church and travel west on Cherokee to Semore park.

Muskogee: 

Muskogee begins their MLK day events at 7:30 on Monday morning with a free pancake breakfast at the MLK community center, followed by a worship service, a parade at noon and then wrapping up with an after party.

Stillwater: 

The SCU march will start at Southern Woods Park at 1 p.m. After leaving Southern Woods Park, the march route goes past the Stillwater Public Library, through downtown and up Duck Street, eventually arriving at OSU's Spears School of Business. Participants are then invited to join the OSU student march, which will begin at 2 p.m. following comments from Stillwater Mayor Will Joyce, OSU President Kayse Shrum and other university leaders. The student march will continue across campus to The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts. There, student keynote speaker Chideha Kanu will address the crowd. Oklahoma State University also has several community events planned for its MLK celebration, including a community service project, an evening with famed journalist Soledad O'Brien at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 20 at The McKnight Center and an excursion to Tulsa's Greenwood District on Saturday, January 22.
