A child is hospitalized after an accidental shooting in northwest Oklahoma City, police said.

Officials said it started after a domestic depute Monday morning near Northwest 16th and MacArthur Boulevard.

"She ran up to me and showed me the baby's wound, and it didn't look too good," said Keletrey Hodges, a neighbor.

It happened just after 8 a.m., and police got reports of a child having been shot near a northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex. One neighbor said he woke up to the chaos.

"All I heard was a gunshot this morning and I ran outside, and there was just a whole lot of commotion going on," said Hodges.

Investigators said two people were arguing inside a vehicle when the gun went off and hit the child.

"The child was taken to a local hospital, and is in stable condition currently, again this firearm right now appears was not intended for use on the child," said Oklahoma City police Sgt. Dillon Quirk.

Police said one person was arrested on a misdemeanor complaint for domestic violence in the presence of a child.

"I just want to pray and make sure they're alright and make sure everybody is looking over them and trying to protect them because that's not right," said Hodges.

Officers are continuing to interview people at the scene and try to piece together any other evidence on this case.

Police said no one else was injured at the scene, and no other arrests have been made.
