A car stolen at a casino is linked to two home invasions. Norman police are looking for a suspect and an accomplice.
Matthew Mckinzie, one of the homeowners, told News 9 the encounter prompted him to install a camera system.
“It was all adrenaline…I mean it was a scary moment,” he said.
The burglar entering his home mid-day Tuesday while he was watching TV a few feet away from the door.
“Got to where he made a threatening move going for his waistband. That’s when I shut the door and ran to my room to retrieve my firearm. Chased him out the door, got his tag, and called the cops,” he said.
Investigators said the suspect got back into a vehicle and tried his luck again a street over on Barry Switzer Avenue.
“I got his tag number and immediately called the cops, and he went right down the street and went into another way,” said Mckinzie.
“The second one was an occupied residence as well, but the resident didn’t know that the individuals were inside the home. They believe they went into a side door of the home and were basically in the garage area before they left,” said Sarah Jensen, the Norman Police Department Public Information Officer.
Mckinzie watched it all unfold from his front yard. “I saw a cop car and that’s when a pursuit initiated and they chased him,” said the homeowner.
“This time of year, we do see individuals that like crimes of opportunities. Heading into the holidays people know you have increased amount of goods in your home,” said Jensen.
Police said the vehicle, a 2001 white Chevrolet blazer with a black and red strip over the front fender, was stolen.
“This vehicle could have been involved in some other crimes, vehicle burglaries in the area of McClain County or near Riverwind Casino,” said Jensen.
“It could have gone a different way luckily, we are a well-armed family so we will defend ourselves if we have to,” said Mckinzie.
Police said the suspect had a female getaway driver and are looking for the duo.
