Holiday Adventures: Oklahoma Restaurants 'Deck The Walls' For Holiday Season

On a 70 degree December day, it's snowing outside of Roosevelt's along Cherry Street in Tulsa. And inside, the magic of Christmas is captured in every inch of the restaurant and bar. “We thought if you laid under your Christmas tree and you looked up, what would it look like? We wanted everyone to eat underneath the Christmas tree,” said Roosevelt’s co-owner Vincent Sorrentino.

The owners decorate with about 40-thousand icicles, 20-thousand ornaments, a mile's worth of garland and lots of lights. The “fluffing” process with the garland starts in a warehouse in August, then work to create the Christmas escape inside Roosevelt’s takes about 6 weeks the owners said.

“I come every year to see the amazing decorations,” said Tulsa resident Jammi Sivadon. “It just makes you feel so festive and happy and just at peace.”

Roosevelt's has been decking the halls, walls and ceilings with Christmas decorations for the last three years, giving visitors an experience they can’t find anywhere else in Oklahoma.

It's now a destination for the holiday season with customers traveling from all over the country to get a taste of the enchanting Christmas escape.

“To make people smile, to see how they come in and they get to experience their family here with us. It really is kind of magical,” said Roosevelt’s co-owner Josh Royal.

And as Roosevelt's cements itself as a Tulsa Christmastime icon, another legendary stop is celebrating its final holiday season. Celebrity Restaurant has been serving up Christmas traditions to families for nearly 60 years.

“It's absolutely beautiful. It’s amazing. It's always been kind of iconic in Tulsa,” said Julie Poirier.

Holiday lights, tinsel, wreaths and ornaments add to the already festive floor-to-ceiling red decor.

“It's unparalleled, the decor is what we all look forward to we also make it a habit to come at least once during the holiday season,” said longtime customer Linda Phillips.

The restaurant closed in July due to staffing and product shortages but wanted to share one last Christmas season with its loyal customers.

“It's stunning. It's really a treasure. It'll be sad to see it go,” Poirier said.

If your holiday adventures take you to Oklahoma City, New State Burgers & Spirits in the Plaza District is dishing out a dining experience with a touch of Christmas in every detail.

“We sourced the glassware from different estate sales and antique stores and we've got the shiny bright, so it's kind of a classic Christmas decor that we're probably going to expand on,” said New State Burgers & Spirits co-owner Tyler Maune.

If his last name looks familiar, it’s because Tyler is News On 6 anchor Tess Maune’s older brother, who goes all out for Christmas at his restaurant and bar.

“This is my favorite time of year, yes,” Tyler said. “It's always fun.”

From Santa and his reindeer riding through a sky full of giant ornaments to custom wrapping paper and posters and even a special Christmas drink, New State is another spot making spirits bright this holiday season.
