TULSA, Oklahoma -

A new community center is coming to Tulsa that will provide resources for at-risk families

Empower Tulsa broke ground Monday on the renovation of a new community center at 26th and Peoria.

“It’s going to be great for us because of the clientele that we work with has transportation issues when they want to go to group or if they want counseling, “says Donna Walker.

Donna Walker will be the manager of the new building and she says she grew up right down the street.

She says the impact of this new community center will change the lives of many.

“It means a lot when we first looked at these buildings, I remember that building it’s been a couple of things, its actually older than I am so it’s great because it has sat empty so long, so now there will be some type of beautification and positive feelings with God’s help in this building right here,” she said.

This new center will offer several resources for families and children, like providing counseling and support groups.

Executive Director Holly Towers says this program encourages families to address things they are going through.

“Our program here is really designed to come in and say to parents that we believe in you and we know you want to do the best you can for your children, so we focus on things like social connectedness like building community”, says Holly Towers.

Both Walker and Towers hope this place will provide a safe place for families for years to come.

“Come on let’s talk about it, bring mom and dad, bring sister, it's part of your village, we want that village back”, Walker said.

Leaders say they hope this building will be complete in September 2022.
