Members of the Sapulpa Community and firefighters came together to replace toys when vandals targeted a school.

They say they wanted to do Something Good for kids at Lone Star School!

"It is the little things that count," said Levi Coats with Sapulpa Firefighters IAFF Local 194

The little things like buying some new Tonka Trucks for kids whose toys were destroyed over Thanksgiving Break. Someone damaged a couple hundred dollars worth of school property at Lone Star over the break.

"Really we just wanted to put it out there to see if anyone knew anything. We were not asking for any help at that time, but we were overwhelmed by the generosity of the community and people stepping forward to help replace those toys," said Principal Justin Whitehouse with Lone Star School.

The Sapulpa Firefighter Union stepped in almost immediately.

"We went to the school and visited with the teacher and the principal there, some of the staff upfront and they gave me a list of what was destroyed. Then we went to Atwoods and bought the toys- basically Tonka Trucks, and then we threw in a couple of firetrucks as well," said Coats, "I think it is part of the job. Being a firefighter that is part of our nature."

And they weren't the only ones. Members of the community dropped off new and used replacements for the toys broken and damaged as well.

"It is just a community effort in general," said Coats.

Principal Whitehouse says his students couldn't have been more excited about their new toys- and the story of community support that will be passed along with them.

"It was fun- it is nice to give back," said Coats, "Everybody receives things differently just the gesture goes a long way, just the effort."
