An Oklahoma City father was arrested on Tuesday after he called 911 for help with his wife.

Police arrested Andrew Hutchison, 48, after they said they saw the filthy conditions of the home near NW 164th and Western Avenue.

Officers also found Hutchison’s unclothed daughter who told police she was unsure when she ate her last meal.

“It’s terrible walking into a setting like this especially when you’ve got a small child being raised in such filth,” said Master Sgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department.

Police said Hutchison reported his wife had a mental breakdown and had not gotten out of bed in a month.

“When officers went inside, they found cat feces everywhere,” said Knight. “Numerous cats.”

Besides that, officers described a sickening odor of cat urine throughout the home, large amounts of rotten food and trash, pathways to bedrooms made through trash and a bottle of urine in a bedroom. Next door neighbors told News 9 they had no idea the home was in such bad shape but were even more disturbed to learn the child was allegedly not being cared for.

Officers said the child was unclothed and dirty. She could only remember eating a can of tuna, which police said turned out to be a can of cat food.

“They called for DHS to check the welfare of the child,” said Knight. “The DHS worker was unable to enter the residence because the odor was so strong and foul that it was making her sick just getting close to the house.”

The child was removed from the home and taken to the hospital for a checkup.

Two days later, an Oklahoma City Animal Welfare worker collected close to a dozen cats from inside the home and said there were more inside that would be picked up later.

Hutchison was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on one complaint of child neglect. His wife was not arrested.
