A son is sorting through emotions after the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation identified his mother, Rebecca Boyd, years after she disappeared.

Dalton Todd said this identification is far from closure for him and it just leads to more questions if anything.

“It’s not any kind of closure. It’s just taking the scab off,” said Todd.

Todd was just 9 years old when his mother Boyd vanished. The last time she was seen was July 26, 2002 in Lawton.

“It’s kind of numbing. I’ve been dealing with this since I was 9 and I’m almost 29,” he said.

Three years after her disappearance, a farmer found a skull while working. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, along with local law enforcement, said they worked day in and day out to identify the "Kiowa County Jane Doe."

“We tried everything we had in our to toolbox. She was entered into national missing and unidentified person database. Based on our case information, we did facial reconstruction, hoping someone might recognize her that way,” said Brook Arbeitman, the OSBI spokeswoman.

After 16 years with no answers, Arbeitman said the University of North Texas found a match. A DNA test solved the mystery; "Kiowa County Jane Doe" is Rebecca Jean Boyd.

“Now, we need to figure out what happened to her. How she ended up in that field and who is responsible,” she said.

“I think my aunt is really hopeful that something good can come of this, but I don’t know,” said Todd.

As years pass, he struggles with the idea he may never get answers.

Todd said they were able to lay his mother to rest. The family is now asking anyone with information to come forward. Anyone with information can call the OSBI tip line at 1-800-522-8017 or email tips@osbi.ok.gov.
