A new multi-story apartment building, and shopping area, is planned for the northwest corner of 11th and Lewis. A groundbreaking was held Wednesday, with demolition work almost complete on what was once a car dealership at the site. The development covers just over 4 acres, across the street from Mother Road Market.

Developer Chris Ellison said plans call for 256 luxury apartments, with an enclosed parking garage. The City plans sidewalk, street and lighting improvements in the area, funded with taxes generated from the project. The Route 66 Aero line will start running about the time the project is complete.

“So people are going to come in here, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units, so we're going to have a wide array of people and family dynamics who can utilize the space,” said Ellison.

Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum said the project complements other investments along Route 66.

"I have been so excited to see the grassroots development that's been happening along Route 66 here in Tulsa in the last 5 years, but this is really taking it to the next level,” said Bynum.
