The CDC has now approved the shots for kids 5 to 11 years old.

The state health department said Pfizer's COVID-19 could be available for children by the end of this week.

"The numbers are going down and improving, but COVID-19 is now in the top 10 for causes of death in children," said Dr. Donna Tyungu, a pediatric infectious disease specialist with OU Health.

Orders for kids' vaccines have already been placed in preparation for the C-D-C's approval Tuesday.

The vaccine that will be distributed to children is smaller than the dose for adults. It will be administered like the adult vaccine, with two shots 21 days apart.

"They are creating vials for children. So, the vials we got are purple topped with purple syringes and so the kids will be orange, and the dose is a third over what those over 12 get," said Tyungu.

Children will need to have parental consent to receive the shot.

The state health department plans to receive more kids’ vaccines every week.

You will be able to get the vaccine at pharmacies, county health departments and from your doctor’s office once final approval is given by the CDC director.
