In a Friday episode of Dr. Phil airing on News 9 at 3 p.m., Dr. Phil McGraw will interview Oklahoma death row inmate Richard Glossip and state lawmakers supporting his innocence claim.

“I’ve spoken to the attorney general in Oklahoma about this and asked him to take a look at this case,” Dr. Phil told News 9. “We’re doing everything we can. We’ve had these members of the legislature here.”

Rep. Kevin McDugle, R-Wagoner, and Rep. Justin Humphrey, R-Lane, appear in the upcoming episode along with a representative from the Innocence Project and Glossip’s defense attorney Don Knight.

McDugle and Humphrey led a bipartisan group back in June of lawmakers asking Gov. Kevin Stitt and the state’s Pardon and Parole Board for an independent investigation into the 1997 murder of Barry Van Treese that sent Glossip to death row.

Oklahoma County district attorney David Prater called the June press conference political theater.

“It is concerning to me that the legislators who have signed the letter to the governor and the pardon and parole board, many of whom are attorneys, have never attempted to contact me about the Glossip case,” Prater wrote. “They have made no inquiry about any of the claims made by the killer’s lawyers or supporters.”

“I am absolutely convinced that this man is innocent,” Dr. Phil said Wednesday.

He said he has even taken his appeal to the state’s attorney general, speaking with him personally.

Glossip does not yet have an execution date. He is one of more than 30 death row inmates challenging the state’s execution protocol.

The first inmate in nearly seven years is set to be executed October 28.

You can watch the episode at 3 p.m. Friday on News 9.
