Oklahoma City Police Department Kicks Off Faith And Blue Community Service Weekend

It’s the second annual Faith and Blue, a national event that’s going on across the country. It’s a weekend of service for the Oklahoma City Police Department. 

About 40 Oklahoma City police officers came together to frame and roof a house with Habitat for Humanity. 

 “When we got here, all it was, was the slab, and we’ve already got the walls back and we’re getting ready to put the roof on,” said Capt. Dan Bigelow with the OCPD.

It’s a collective effort with officers of every rank working alongside people from the community. And the officers love it. 

“It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it. To give back to the community, to see all of us working together, police, citizens, church members and the beautification of this neighborhood, it makes me feel good,” said Lt. Gamille Hardin with the OCPD.

The future homeowners are very appreciative of everyone who came out. 

As officers kick off the weekend of service, they are happy to interact with the community in a different light.

“I think it’s great for the community, I think it shows that police officers, this is what we love to do, we’re here to help the community, we’re not just out here to write tickets and put people in jail,” said Bigelow. 

The department also invites the community out this Sunday to the Brookwood Baptist Church at 8921 South Walker for a meet and greet. 

“There’s going to be several officers there that can converse with, talk to. They’re going to have some food. They’re going to have some candy for the kids,” said Bigelow. 

The officers will also host a coat giveaway as well as other community events.
