Members of Congress will have their first chance this afternoon to question the Biden administration about its handling of the nation’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken is scheduled to testify virtually before the House Foreign Affairs Committee at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Republicans, as well as many Democrats, have been highly critical of the President and Secretary Blinken for seemingly being unprepared for the swift fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban and for the logistics needed to evacuate thousands of Americans and Afghan allies from the country. 13 U.S. service members were killed in a suicide bombing outside the Kabul airport at the height of what was a chaotic two and a half week airlift operation.

When the Pentagon discontinued the operation on August 31, the administration estimated there were still 100-200 Americans in Afghanistan.

Members of the Oklahoma congressional delegation have been particularly critical of President Biden for, they say, falsely claiming that he would get all Americans out of the country before withdrawing the last soldiers. No members of the delegation sit on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
