Oklahoma health leaders will release new information about the state's COVID-19 response. 

Currently, more than 1,500 people are fighting the virus in the hospital. 

OU Health's top COVID expert, Dr. Dale Bratzler said Oklahoma is ranked 9th in the nation right now for new COVID cases. 

Currently, two of the metro's major cities are seeing spikes in cases. 

In Norman, the city recorded more than 500 total cases in the past week, that's the largest increase the city has seen since January. 

In Oklahoma City, there has been a major surge in cases, averaging around 800 per day over the last week. 

And according to Mayor David Holt, numbers are approaching the all-time high of 1000 cases per day. 

Oklahoma's 7 day rolling average for cases in sitting at nearly 2,800 with more than 22,000 active COVID cases in the state as of Thursday morning.
