Starting Thursday, the entire 8th grade class at Oklahoma City’s FD Moon Middle school will begin quarantine after COVID-19 exposure at the school.
The students will be learning virtually after a teacher tested positive for the virus.
In a letter sent to families, the principal of the school said they are taking these actions out of an abundance of caution. Families should expect to learn more sometime Thursday.
Students are expected to return to the classroom on Monday, unless they were directly exposed to the virus.
Curbside meal services are provided for students from 11 a.m. to noon. Families can drive-thru and pick up breakfast and lunch at no cost.
This is the first major quarantine in the district.
The message below went to 8th Grade FD Moon Families
Dear 8th Grade Families at FD Moon:
On Wednesday, August 18th, OKCPS was notified that a teacher or instructional staff member who works with our 8th grade students at FD Moon Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution and while we are continuing to conduct our site-level contact tracing, all 8th grade students have been asked to quarantine at home.
Families of 8th graders should expect to hear more details on next steps from my team in the next 24 hours. In the meantime, all 8th graders at FD Moon should plan to log into Canvas for synchronous learning at home for the rest of the week. As a reminder, synchronous instruction means that students will receive live instruction from their teacher or teachers. Students should log in from home using their device and follow their normal class bell schedule.
Unless you are contacted by school officials who have confirmed that you are a close contact, these students should plan to return to campus for in-person learning on Monday, August 23rd.
Curbside meal service will be provided for 8th grade students beginning tomorrow, August 19th from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, and families are encouraged to drive-thru and pick up breakfast and lunch at no cost for their student(s).
If at any time your student becomes ill or develops symptoms of COVID-19, please keep your student at home and call the school for further instructions.
The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority and we thank you for your patience while we work through this.
Patrice Cannon
