It was one of the most controversial parts of last school year: masks. This year the legislature passed and the Governor signed a law saying school districts couldn't mandate mask wearing unless the Governor declares a state of emergency.
News 9’s Robin Marsh and Lacie Lowry brought up the issue to superintendents from Oklahoma City, Yukon and Edmond who told them they are frustrated that they can’t make decisions that impact their district. Dr. Sean McDaniel with OKCPS says he has personally reached out to the Governor’s office but there’s no indication the Governor is reconsidering his statement that he won’t declare a state of emergency.
