An accident involving a semi truck has limited traffic Saturday morning near the Amarillo Junction.

The truck, which is on its side, also collided with a pole which holds traffic exit signs from above.

As a result of the accident, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation said the westbound Interstate 40 off-ramp to Interstate 44 westbound is closed.

Traffic traveling westbound on I-40 has also been narrowed to one lane between South Agnew Avenue and the Amarillo Junction.

ODOT said it anticipates cleanup could be completed as early as 6 p.m. Saturday. Before the truck can be removed, the overhead exit signs have to be removed.

Once the exit signs and semi truck are removed, the pole will have to be repaired.

ODOT suggests drivers must exit at South Pennsylvania Ave. north to Reno Ave. They can then re-enter westbound I-40 at North Portland Ave., North Meridian Ave. or North MacArthur Blvd. in order to bypass the closure at the Interstate 44 interchange.

Alternate routes also include taking westbound I-44 to SH-66, westbound I-44 (runs south) to westbound SH-152 to northbound SH-4 and southbound I-35 to westbound I-240 to westbound SH-152.

Authorities do not yet know the cause of the accident.

This is a developing story.
