The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety will open a ‘megacenter’ Monday dedicated to renewing driver’s licenses, commercial driver’s licenses and identification cards.

“As long as you already have an Oklahoma license or an ID card in hand, you can come here and get that renewed,” DPS spokesperson Sarah Stewart said. “If it’s your first time getting a license in the state of Oklahoma, you will not be able to come to the megacenter.”

The center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday starting Monday, July 26. It is being housed on the second floor of 1000 NE 10th in Oklahoma City, formerly the Oklahoma State Department of Health building.

Signs are set up on NE 10th St. to guide drivers to the second floor of the parking garage for the event.

“That’s the goal—to make it as convenient as possible for Oklahomans,” Stewart said.

The megacenter is scheduled to remain open until December 10, although Stewart said that is subject to change based on the demand for license renewal services.

DPS staff expects a large crowd to be interested in the megacenters in Oklahoma City and Tulsa because of the backlog of online license renewals, which is between one and two months.

Appointments at DPS facilities are also booked at most locations for the next 60 days, Stewart said.

Anyone looking to receive a driver’s permit, their first Oklahoma license or upgrade to a Real I.D. will need to do so at a DPS facility, not the megacenter.

“We’re hoping this megacenter will take a lot of the load off of DPS locations,” she said.

A second DPS megacenter opens at the Kensington Business Center on August 16.
