OKC Senior Living Center Has Beach Party For Residents And Their Families

On hot July days in Oklahoma there is nothing like a day at the beach. But in Oklahoma there are no beaches -- except at the Emerald Square Senior Living Center 

The center located at 701 N. Council Road is not a veteran’s center; however, they have a strong focus in caring for veterans and work closely with the VA. 

The staff wanted to do something fun for the residents and their families; so they had a beach party. 

“It’s time to have a little bit of fun. I mean summer is gonna disappear and it’s gonna be winter again and there’s not going to be anything to do,” said Polly Milligan with Emerald Square. 

So, they brought in lots of sand, pools and beach balls to create a makeshift beach. The residents excited and ready to go, engaged in a quick water gun and silly string fight. 

There was plenty of food and drinks.

“We have all kinds of drinks, margaritas and beers because they love their beers, the boys around here enjoy them,” said Milligan. 

For the staff and the residents, it all about having fun.

“They get very excited about everything we do. We try to have a lot of fun with them. We have cornhole tournaments that we do,” Milligan said. “We go outside and have fun all the time, frisbee throwing whatever we can do. We like to have a lot of fun.”

Just a day at the beach for these special people, many of whom have served their country.
