The man wanted in connection with multiple shootings in Oklahoma was captured Thursday afternoon in Dallas.
The search for him took more than a dozen city, county, tribal, and federal agencies to track down Lee King. King is accused of shooting three people over a five-day period.
"This is somebody who's ruthless. He was armed and dangerous, and we were able to get him off the streets before he could do this to someone else," said Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight.
U.S. Marshals arrested King at a Dallas apartment. Thirteen law enforcement agencies across Oklahoma and Texas were involved in the manhunt and worked around the clock.
Officials said it's actually the public that helped get him in handcuffs.
"We actually received a tip through our tip line. We forwarded that information to the U.S. Marshals, and within two hours, he was in custody," said Brook Arbeitman with OSBI.
The violent crime spree started Saturday morning at the OSU-OKC campus. Police said King flagged a car down, shot a woman in the leg and then drove off with the rented vehicle.
"She had basically given up the car. He shot her anyway," Knight said.
That night, King was seen on security cameras at a gas station near Vian with Derek Riggs and Jake Myers. Investigators said King most likely ran out of gas, and the two stopped to help.
"Within minutes of leaving the Love's, the two men are on the side of Interstate 40 with gunshot wounds," said Arbeitmen. "Myers, he's 32, he was shot in the face and Riggs was shot multiple times in the torso."
Both men are expected to survive. Authorities said King was next seen early Sunday morning as he drove through Antlers without his headlights on.
"The officer follows him down a dead-end road, at which point, he ditches the vehicle and disappears into the woods," Arbeitmen said.
Law enforcement processed the car and found King's fingerprints, his debit card, and bullet casings that match those used to shoot Riggs and Myers near Vian.
Lee is being held in the Dallas County jail and is waiting to be extradited to Oklahoma. He will face two complaints of shooting with intent to kill, and one maiming complaint for the Vian shooting. He also expected to be charged with robbery and gun charges for the Oklahoma City incident.
