OKCPS, City-County Health Department To Answer Questions On Vaccines, Back To School

Oklahoma City Public Schools is also walking parents and students through what could happen if COVID-19 cases continue to rise.

This includes the possibility of going back to a staggered A-B schedule. The district said it will do what they can to stop the spread of the virus.

The district cited several barriers that could make things difficult, including children under the age of 12 not being able to get the vaccine. There are also state laws in place, which bans the district’s ability to require masks in schools.

According to the self-reported data to the district, 56 percent of OKCPS teachers are vaccinated.

If there is a breakout, OKCPS said contract tracing will happen on site.

"Students and staff that are unvaccinated will still be required to quarantine," Oklahoma City Public Schools superintendent Brad Herzer said. "If you are fully vaccinated, and you aren't showing symptoms, you don't have to."
