How OKCPS Plans To Curb Risk Of COVID-19 This Fall

Oklahoma City Public Schools said face masks will not be required for students this fall, but the district will focus on contact tracing, testing and social distancing to the greatest extent possible.

The district is asking parents to check their students' temperature before they head to class. While the district said masks are not mandated, in compliance with a new state law, the district is working to make personal protective equipment such as masks available to students, staff and visitors who want them.

Cleaning will also be a priority in addition to ionization for disinfecting school buildings.

OKCPS said strongly recommending that eligible students and staff who are interested to go ahead and get vaccinated as soon as possible.

The district has worked with community partners to provide vaccination opportunities to staff, students and families throughout the summer. 

As more opportunities are made available and as younger populations become eligible for the vaccine, OKCPS said it will keep families updated. 

In the meantime, anyone interested can visit any of the Oklahoma City-County Health Department’s clinics or go to www.vaxokc.com to find a location offering the vaccine.

OKCPS is hosting a press conference at 10 a.m. Wednesday to give the latest information about the district’s enrollment. The press conference will held at Roosevelt Middle School.

Roosevelt’s principal Scott Farley will also be in attendance.
