A fun day for students from an Oklahoma City elementary school. They got a visit from a book bus.

It was also the first time ReadOKC On The Go hit the street, giving free books to all kids of all ages.

"Being able to give a child a book of their own to keep that they selected is really huge," said Mary Mélon, President/CEO of the Foundation for OKCPS.

This upcoming school year's goal for Oklahoma City Public Schools is to get books into every student's hands.

"We know that kids that have home libraries read more and do better in school," said Mélon.

The plan is to roll this ADA Compliant mobile library up to schools and let students pick out their own books.

"Our bus is stocked with books for Pre-k through high school. We are going to providing books to every OKCPS student," said Mélon.

With over 4,000 books on the bus for students to take home, they want to give out at least 10,000 books this year.
