A warrant has been issued for a 17-year-old accused of fatally shooting his cousin at a southwest Oklahoma City apartment complex Tuesday night.
Johnny Lee Bailey is charged with one count of first-degree murder.
Oklahoma City Police responded to the Seminole Ridge apartment complex just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night on reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived Latrell Davis, 22, was found shot in the stomach.
Still alive at the scene, Davis was taken to OU Health where he later died.
A day later, Davis’ family is still trying to make sense of it all.
“He was full of life,” Latrell’s sister, Jasmine Davis said. “If anyone knows Latrell, they know him as always goofy and always smiling.”
Family said Davis was working on getting accepted into the U.S. Navy.
“Before this had happened, he came to the house and he was getting ready for work,” Latrell’s brother, Joe Davis said. “The last thing he said to me, he was like, ‘I love you bro.’”
Police believe Latrell and his cousin got into an altercation with two witnesses in the parking lot Tuesday night.
According to court records, those witnesses told police Davis was shot as they themselves were being shot at.
Latrell and Bailey posted a video to Facebook hours before the shooting while hanging out at Scissortail Park.
“Why? What was the reason?” Jasmine said. “Why would you do that to a brother? A son? A nephew? You don’t understand how much hurt you have caused on our family.”
Latrell would have been 23 years old next month. A birthday the family is now forced to live through without him.
“I know he’s looking down from heaven, I just told him, just save me a place where he lays at,” Joe said.
Oklahoma City police tracked down the vehicle Bailey fled the scene in. The vehicle was found at the Phillips 66 gas station located at 440 Southwest 59th Street.
According to investigators, Bailey is seen on camera by himself wearing the same clothes in the Facebook video. He grabbed something from the driver’s seat and placed it in his right front pocket or waistband and then covered it with his shirt.
Bailey then walked north, away from the gas station, and hasn’t been seen again.
