Organizers behind the proposed redevelopment of the old Crowne Plaza hotel near 81st and Lewis are asking for more time to prepare before the Tulsa City Council decides the next steps for the project. The rezoning application is currently on the agenda for Wednesday’s city council meeting.

Veteran Services USA, the organization behind the redevelopment, asked in a letter addressed to the city council for any action to be delayed until next month. They claimed their request is because attention has been focused on completing purchases of property and they have not had time to focus attention on the meeting.

The redevelopment plan includes turning six floors of the vacant hotel into affordable housing for veterans who are 55 years and older. The other floors would operate as a traditional Radisson Hotel. Additionally, 12,000 feet of conference center space would be converted into an adult daycare center.

The idea has been met with opposition from people living in the area. Many have signed petitions and letters about their concerns.
