People displaced by the flash flooding that brought more than ten inches of rain in Okmulgee earlier this month still need help.

Volunteers have been able to use an empty Warehouse Market off 8th Street as a distribution center, providing storm victims with all kinds of supplies.

Pastor Rocky Ausbrooks at The Refuge Church said they've been able to serve more than 200 families.

“North Star Bridge and 180 Disaster Relief brought in a bunch of great stuff,” Ausbrooks said.

Ausbrooks is just one of many volunteers who've dedicated their time to organize and distribute supplies, as they're still trying to get the city back to normal.

"Kind of caught everyone off guard, broke the 100-year flood plain records, 13.5 inches in 18 hours, so a lot of our low areas got hit pretty hard,” Ausbrooks said.

Sherry Horn volunteers at American Legion. She came to pick up supplies for the veterans.

"With the flood and the pandemic, they are going on donation. To hand them food and cleaning products, to give them a little faith,” Horn said.

Ausbrooks said the distribution center will be open for a few more days. However, they'll still do community outreaches to make sure anyone who needs help gets it.

“For us to reach out to people and help people, it's not just been one church, it's not been one organization, it's been a collaborative effort,” Ausbrooks said.
